The Launceston area had a number of Easter events to celebrate the holidays
The Easter spirit hopped throughout the Launceston area on Saturday with a number of events seeing a great turnout from the community. Launceston Alive's annual Easter Festival in City Park had thousands of people attend its festivities. Event organiser Stephanie Sebastian said it was a really amazing day. "It's the variety of people that's really exciting," she said. "It's a real community-building event, we have people of all ethnic backgrounds from various suburbs from all over the area which is really amazing." According to Ms Sebastian highlights from the day included the live music, jumping castles and free barbecue. "There was something here for everyone really," Ms Sebastian said. Australian Commonwealth Game medalist Nicola McDermott opened the festival and held her own long jump clinic for children. Ms Sebastian said it was great to have Ms McDermott attend the event and train the young champions of the future. "The Easter Festival tries to engage people through various genres," "One year we had food, one year we had thought, this year we are concentrating on sports. "Obviously we wanted to invite a top athlete for that and Nicola is great. "She is the Australian high-jumping champion and she has a wonderful sense of community and embracing everyone and building young people up." More than 1000 people ventured to Grindelwald for Easterfest. Aspect Valley Tamar Resort general manager Damien Pinkerton said this year's festival was as successful as the first Easterfest. "We had 1200 registered to attend this year which was pretty exciting," Mr Pinkerton said. "It was free for everyone, with pony rides, our big jumping pillows, our big jumping castle as well, two face painters and stalls - fun for everyone." Mr Pinkerton added that it was really nice to see not just kids but the whole family having fun. "It's great that we can put something like this on for the community - that's the best part," he said.
